Simon Wong Engineering. The name has been synonymous with success in San Diego since 1986. President Simon Wong built an engineering design brand that invokes images of excellence, creativity, reliability, success and prestige. Our History
The first clients of Simon Wong Engineering checked in with a receptionist and were received in a spacious conference room. Little did they know that in 1986, Simon Wong was the only employee and his “real” office consisted of a mere 120 square feet of windowless, rented room in the back.
“It was the cheapest I could find,” Simon explains. “The office building had a central receptionist and a conference facility you could book. So, when people came in, they didn’t realize I was a one-person operation,” hence the beginning of the Structural Division.
In 1992, the Bridge Division was born, which specializes in full-service bridge and transportation-related structures engineering and design. Within a few short years, Bridge began providing construction management services, and as a result, the Construction Management Division was created in 2000.
22 years later, Simon Wong Engineering has six principals and more than 100 employees in three divisions. Simon Wong Engineering has been involved with the design and engineering of such a wide variety of projects that Simon says his business is an anomaly among medium-sized firms. “Simon Wong Engineering is a very interesting business model. Some firms specialize in structures, but not bridges, or in bridges, but not in construction management. To put them all together is rare. We call it the WONG way,” he jokes.
